Adegast

Adegast

Adegast is a wizard demon from the Demon Realm of The Owl House. In the second episode, he is introduced as a seemingly friendly wizard who helps Luz go on a 'chosen one' quest when it was all a trap so that an octopus-like monster could use her as leverage against Eda for outshining his potion-selling business. But Luz, with help from Eda and King, manages to defeat the monster.

Role in the series[]

The real Adegast is revealed to have been a victim of the monster alongside Nevareth, Chris the Riddle-Cat, Mila the bat-winged-bud critter, and Azalea the Fairy. The 'chosen one' journey that Luz was tricked into going on was actually a reflection of Adegast's own history. He came from a long line of wizards who specialized in celestial magic back when the Boiling Isles was the Celestial Isles of the Fantasy Realm. After B'oil the Boiler’s death, the Celestial Lands survived and the family scattered into hiding as minor mages or witches including Adegast’s brother Abendgast, who left for his ancestral hometown of Celestwood in Wizard Country. Adegast started off as a miserable minor mage's was raised the miserable apprentice of a witch from Aira named Master Divinus, until he discovered his family's ancient history as wizards. He would be destined to claim the Celestial Staff from Celestial Lake yet find stiff competition from Nevareth, the paladin his brother assigned to him. Yet they, Chris, Mila, and Azalea would defeat his master Divinus who was looking for the Staff to get recognition for himself. He would lose the Celestial Lands to the rule of Emperor Hellion and Emperor Belos after him after they refused to submit to the Administration of Conformity, as Prime Minister Temperwing would destroy most of the land in a fit of rage. The Celestial Staff is a weapon that uses celestial magic, which is a divine magic capable of killing demons, which makes it highly sought after by even the Conformity, yet it can only be wielded by one who is 'chosen', a term that is dubious following the Fantasy Realm’s death. Later, he would be sought by Hastur, the half-brother of Cthulhu who wanted to conquer the land by controlling ancient evils through the Brotherhood of the Yellow Sign. Fearing that he would defeat him since he was able to destroy most of Hastur's control over ancient evils, he sent a Mischiefied Mortal-Napper named Conyluth to assimilate him after impersonating a then-dead adversary of Eda, a puppeteer demon named Marione, making him the fist of Conyluth's victims. Luz would become the one who finally defeats Conyluth since her story at the time was similar to Adegast's. After she and her friends free Adegast and the others, he recruits her alone to go to Carcosa and defeat Hastur once and for all. He would soon also move on to create a resistance against the Conformity starting with Nevareth's girlfriend Bladia and her father Reptoblade, and King's children Bishop, Knight, Rook, and Pawn to redeem themselves after their betrayal with King Asmodeus. Since then though, Abegast had allowed Luz and others to be under Randolph Carter's watch in feeling like 0-Brave affairs should belong to 0-Braves, but he isn't shy to get involved if he feels truely needed.
