Overlord Druun is known to be the Darkspawn Lord of Disarray. Living much of his life in the Banished Realms, his origins were not as dark. Druun was in truth originally a dragon during the era around the First Cartoonian War who saw that Kumandra was too complacent and too peaceful, and so sought to fix it by bringing war. These ideas earned him disgrace from the other dragons as they are not bred for negativity but only to protect humanity, and yet Druun argued that the best way to protect humanity was to protect it from itself, as complacence can bring greed and eventually war from other lands. His attempts to prove this by causing the people to erupt into discord with amorphous energy orbs that would become the Druun of the movie earns him banishment in the underworld for treason. He thus struck a deal with Chernabog to be a stronger force of nature, and this as a result caused the true first Druun War in an age long forgotten that nearly destroyed all of Kumandra. But he was banished into the deeper pits of the Banished Realms at the end of the War. There he would soon come to masquerade as many identities, one of the recent ones being the Overlord of War in the hell of Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss, as he in a crocodilian demon form would learn about I.M.P and forcibly send them to take care of Kumandra and Sisu. Thus Blitzo and only a small percentage of I.M.P including Loona as per request from Druun would at first do this until learning Druun's true nature from Sisu. He seeks to one day escape his imprisonment and return to Kumandra and finish what he started.

The Druun is the secondary antagonist of Raya and the Last Dragon. Raya describes the Druun as a mindless plague. They turn everyone they touch into stone.

History

Raya and the Last Dragon

The Druun is an evil force that threatens the citizens of Kumandra. Though not presented as the primary villains, the monsters remain the underlying threat in Disney's latest animated movie. Not only do the Druun have a long and dark history with Kumandra, but their return ends up teaching the kingdom about the importance of unity. Five centuries before, Kumandra stood as a prosperous land where humans and dragons lived in harmony.

When the Druun arrived, the kingdom was ravished as living things fell victim. To save humanity, a group of dragons combined their magic to form an orb that could banish the Druun. It worked, but the remaining dragons went extinct, except for Sisu. The orb, known as the Dragon Gem, also survived. After the five distinct tribes fight for control of the magical object in the present timeline, it breaks, awakening the Druun. To save humanity and the fate of Kumandra, Raya makes it her mission to find Sisu to help obtain the Dragon Gem pieces to banish the Druun.

The Druun made its last assault on Fang, nearly wiping out all of the remaining population. However, thanks to the efforts of Raya and her friends, the Dragon Gem was finally repaired, releasing a massive shockwave of pure light that blasted the Druun away and ended their reign of terror, reviving Humans and Dragons alike.

Background

Physical Appearance

Druun take the form of amorphous, dark purple and black clouds.

Personality

Druun are said to be a mindless plague that spreads like a relentless wildfire, consuming everything in their path until there is nothing left but ash and stone. They wander Kumandra and targets any living creature they encounter, turning it into a statue. However, Druun appear to be afraid of, and are repelled by both the Dragon Gem and water. They are presented by Sisu as the polar opposite of Dragons; while Dragons embody goodness, selflessness, unity through mutual trust, as well as the gift of Life, the Druun are creatures of pure evil, born from Human discord, and existing solely for the purpose of consuming and destroying everything in their path.

Behavior

The creatures don't travel through water, which is why some of the tribes live so close to the Dragon River, or even on top of it in Talon's case. Aside from water, the Druun are driven away by the Dragon Gem, which Raya's team uses as a shield during their climactic face-off with the evil force in Raya and the Last Dragon. When the dragons put their magic together to form the orb 500 years prior, they entrusted Sisu to use its power to save humanity. Raya convinces her group to do the same by giving Namaari the gem pieces in the last-ditch effort to save Kumandra. By trusting a former foe, the magic unleashes an unstoppable force that banishes the Druun once more while bringing back monsters' victims in the process.

Role in the series

Overlord Druun is known to be the Darkspawn Lord of Disarray. Living much of his life in the Banished Realms, his origins were not as dark. Druun was in truth originally a dragon during the era around the First Cartoonian War who saw that Kumandra and other neighboring kingdoms including Mammala, an architecturally-gifted savanna kingdom of anthropomorphic mammals, Reptilos, a magically-enchanted rainforest kingdom of anthropomorphic reptiles, Avianon, an Atlantis-like cloud kingdom of anthropomorphic birds, Insec, a geomancer subterranean kingdom of anthropomorphic insects or arthropods, Oc’eanma, a weather-controlling underwater kingdom of anthropomorphic sea life, Florina, a plantomancer jungle kingdom of anthropomorphic plants, and Rocc, a large mountainous kingdom of golems, were too complacent and too peaceful, and so sought to fix it by bringing war. They thus had him defeated and set as a statue in display. But this was not truly Overlord Druun's true self as it was merely a decoy meant to bring down suspicion. He seeks to one day escape his imprisonment and return to Kumandra and finish what he started.
