As Spyro celebrates his birthday with the Shell Louge Squad and their friends, a powerful sorceror known as The Time Master, suddenly appears destroying the party and sucking everyone through various "time holes", scattering them across different places in history. Spyro tries to stop him, but the wizard easily knocks him out. After regaining consciousness, Spyro and Sparx find themselves in a strange dimension known as 'White Space', a realm where time and space ends up after it has been 'erased' by being drained of color and life. After rescuing Kairi, Cynder, Riku, Twilight, Spike, The Mane 5, Cutie Mark Crusaders, Trixie and Gilda and as they search for the louge, Spyro and Sparx encounter their younger selves, Classic Spyro, along with Classic Sparx, their friends and enemies. While learning that the Time Master's magic is damaging time and space itself, both Classic and Modern Spyro along with their friends set out on an adventure through the Spyro Video Game Series' history, restoring time to normal and rescuing most of the lougers in the Classic Era (Spyro the Dragon 1998 to Spyro A Hero's Tail 2004).
